The workflow for creating these images starts with spending some time at the location looking to find out what happens where and when and where the best angle would be to capture the narrative from. Then as I start shooting images for the content (usually a few hundred) the ideas for the image design begin to make themselves known and a plan for the work begins to form.
Back at the studio I cut out all the characters I need for my story and place them on the side of the background stage. The process is similar to editing a film, I filter time to bring all the interesting events together and remove all the non essential moments that clutter up the story line. The aim of the composition is to create a comprehensive uderstanding of the scene that even at a glance makes sense, and then all the details that make up the sub narratives can be explores at leisure.
